Toronto Proclamation 2006

 

Toronto Proclamation 2003:

Whereas: On December 10, 1948 the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted and proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as follows:

THIS UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS as a common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations, to the end that every individual and every organ of society, keeping this Declaration constantly in mind, shall strive by teaching and education to promote respect for these rights and freedoms and by progressive measures, national and international, to secure their universal and effective recognition and observance, both among the peoples of Member States themselves and among the peoples of territories under their jurisdiction.

And Whereas:

Article 19.
Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.

And Whereas: the International Association of Educators for World Peace has declared the following Proclamations at its World Conference held in Greenwich England June 16, 2000

1) All Educators both Formal and Informal are Educators for World Peace
2) All Educators for World Peace will shift buying habits of individuals, corporations, institutions and Nation States to support the 1% Solution

Whereas:
These proclamations have been endorsed by organizations and peace leaders around the world (including but not limited to: Federico Mayor Zaragoza, Boutros Boutros Ghali, Rodrigo Carazo Odio, Lama Gangchen, Charles Mercieca, Young Seek Choue, Master Hunbatz Men, Leonard Crow Dog, and many others)

And whereas the Secretary General of the United Nations has instigated a program called the United Nations Global Compact, and the Millennium Report to the World and that has established certain Goals for the Millennium, (MDG's).

In order to achieve these objectives and to do honour to the intention of the above information,

We the People of Toronto endorse the above statements and issue a formal Proclamation to the World,

We proclaim:
To promote the UN Global Compact through the development of a Corporate Social Responsibility Program identified as the Homeplanet Alliance Corporate Social Responsibility Program (HPA-CSR) that will be an over arching program to the existing world standards already developed for Corporations. (ie. ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 18001, AA1000, SA8000 and the HACCP)

We proclaim:
We will encourage government organizations in Canada to support the development of these programs through the good offices of the Mayor of the City of Toronto,

We proclaim:
Toronto will develop itself in a socially responsible manner, keeping in mind the basic tenants of Sustainable human behavior as outlined in the Brundtland Report (1987) and followed by the Rio Conference (1992) and Rio plus 10, the Kyoto Agreements and other International agreements affecting environmental stewardship.


We claim the right to have our Vision 2015 published in all media in Toronto during the course of the Election Campaign of 2003 for the good of the People of Toronto and the ultimate benefit of the People of the World.

We urge all publishers to express this Proclamation and the Vision 2015 in all media and in all forms according to Article 19 of the Declaration of Human Rights.
