Tuesday September 30th

Keith Oslund and his friend Barbara are NLP practitioners. They

came by and we talked for about an hour. It was decided that Barbara and

Keith would do an exchange of services and I suggested that because of our

time limitations that perhaps Barbara would receive a learning from Keith

now, and would share her learnings later over the telephone. It was agreed.

Keith offered to allow me to participate in the lesson, and

Barbara(2) would be an observer. Barbara (1) did not like the idea of an

observer in the process and so Barbara(2) and myself and Justine decided to

go for a walk. While we were walking Barbara (2) suggested that perhaps

she would give me a learning about the NLP work. We agreed, and we found

an appropriate patch of land to sit on down the trail, in the sunlight.

We had an insight into the NLP processes in the past, but this opportunity

was welcomed as I had never taken the time to explore this teaching in depth.

Barbara took me through the first lesson generally referred to as timelines.

Timelines is a process designed to facilitate the organization of one's thinking.

It helps one focus on what is important, and keep it in a perspective that is clean

and healthy. One might give it the quality of being "sustainable human behaviour".

We began the session with me introducing a technique to get ourselves

comfortable with each other. The use of breathing together, and focusing our

attention on the notion that each of us was there for their own highest good, and

( and I stress this part) that I was there as the learner, and that Barbara was

there as the teacher. Having cleared the way for our learning we began.

The process is not difficult, and I will not take the reader through the

whole process. If one desires further insights one can delve further.

Basically one shuts their eyes and puts their past on the left side of

their mind, and the future on the right side. There is a process for

organizing the information on the left side and while I do not feel that I

am able to identify all aspects of it, as I do not know whether or not I am

able to connect to all the process (some may be subliminal) I will identify

some of the aspects. Bringing in to mind all of one's past memories, first

from a physical, then from a mental then from an emotional and then from a

spiritual level. Without identifying an order, move the thoughts over.

Then after you have thought about the process of moving this "stuff" over,

you may, if desired organize these thoughts, ideas, memories and constructs

into a time order. This can be done and will be done on a subconscious

level, and need not drain energy from ones self. The order of the past is

not so important except when you choose to access it. So the first step is

to move over all this stuff to the past, organize it and note that that is

where you are going to store it. Make it clear to yourself that is where

it is. Now, remembering that your eyes are shut, and your focus has been

on the left side (imagining a line on the left side stretching out to

infinity and the thoughts being organized on this line, let the thoughts

come through and imagine now a similar line stretching out on the right

side of your brain to infinity. This is the future. Right now at this

moment you may have some thoughts about the future. Pick a spot the

furthest out in the future that has meaning to you. Think about that

future thought. That thought should be clear and unencumbered by the

baggage of the past. It should be its own clear thought. It is your thought.

You own it. It is the thought that generates and creates your future reality.

It is recommended that this thought be put into a positive context, almost

one might say your preferred world view of that experience.

In short, this is the first lesson in using NLP techniques for assisting

oneself in becoming more human. I believe it is a valuable tool and can

see using it in conjunction with my own materials.

We completed the session and began our walk, or rather run balk to

Justine's. As we were moving along the path, I mentioned that I had hoped

to understand more about emotion and the construction of an emotion.

I had thought that I heard this mentioned in our informal talk at the beginning

of our meeting.

Barbara then stopped on the path and got my attention and we explored an

emotion. We were on the path (metaphor only) as we were on the walking

path J at that moment and she got me to focus my attention again. She then

said bring an emotion into yourself. What does it look like? Where is it?

Does it have colour? Does it have any other qualities? Look at it.

I brought in the emotion of frustration. To me frustration was a feeling

in the center of my chest. It was a constricting feeling. It was black in

colour, suffocating. She then said, "Bring in the opposite." And I did so.

I took in a deep breath of white light, and spread it through my being.

Simple. This is what you do with an emotion. Any emotion. Look at it.

Look at how you identify it through your own sense experience.

And bring light to it. Warm healing light.

I am quite certain there will be more to this NLP, but these first two

learning's were pretty excellent, and while they may sound easy, let me

assure you they are not unless you are ready. I am ready willing and able

learner. Try these for yourself. Find someone who can lead you through

the experience and try it. It will not hurt, although, you may find some

crying done when you get in touch with your feelings and acknowledge some

of your past hurts. Healing by its nature is good.

We arrived at the home where Nadia lives, and Barbara went with Nadia's

mom to do her work. I was offered to do whatever I wanted around the house.

It was a magnificent house with three billiard tables, artifact from around

the world a swimming pool (indoors) an tennis court and rooms and

rooms of interesting "stuff'.

I chose to go and visit Nadia, as I had this strong feeling that I could

help her, and she could help me. Earlier in my life I had this relationship

with my best friend's daughter Stephanie. She also was involved with physical

hardships having had dysenautonomia. Without going into the details of her

challenges, and they were many, I learned a great deal from Stephanie,

around issues of love, friendship, sharing, giving.

Stephanie did this for many people and continues to do so today,

five years after her passing on through the work of her father, and the

Starlight Foundation which helps bring light into children's lives by

manifesting their hopes. So I knew that my meeting Nadia is going to help

continue and shed the light both of Starlight and also of my friend Stephanie.

Meeting a person who is seven years old and hitched up to a breathing

apparatus is at best an unnerving experience. I met the nurses who attend

Nadia with 24 hour a day care. I got a chair and sat down next to Nadia

and began talking with her. I introduced myself, and told her some stories

about my friend Stephanie. I told her a little about the work that I was

involved with, and I asked her if she would like to work with me. I think

that her eye twitched, which we agreed would be our form of communication,

signalled that agreement. We then began the work.

I gave her some work to do with her mind. I actually used some of my

newly learned NLP technique, but more important I asked her to focus on

healing her body with her breathing. To take away the power of the machine

and to get her body/mind to work together to begin the healing process.

I believe that up till now her mind and body have been letting the machines

do all the work. I hope she has heard me, and will take up the challenge of

the work. Time will tell.
