Intervention to the Secretary General's Millennium Report
Dear Drafting Committee:
I am reporting to you
on an event that took place in Toronto on December 2/3.
Sponsored by: The Interreligious and International Federation for World Peace,
the World Association
of Non-Government Organizations, and Metro Active.
This event, Building a
Culture of Peace: Universal Values and Public Service,
was attended by over 150 individuals included some 39 distinct groups
representing a full spectrum of spiritual beliefs passed unanimously a motion
commenting on the Secretary Generals Millennium Report.
The motion praised the
intention and commented favorably on the Report and
pointed out in as positive fashion as possible the areas of the Report that
required rethinking.

Motion:
We report to the Secretary
General of the U.N. that we appreciate all of your
effort on the issues of the Millennium Declaration and would like to hear
your concern in improving the following areas:
1. Shorten the timeline to reduce poverty & unhealthy water.
2. Incorporate the term spirituality and spiritual values into the report.
3. A more workable financing strategy for the U.N.
4. Strengthening of existing
Peace Education Non-Government Organizations
(NGO's) and their curricula. Hague Appeal for Peace (HAP)
And, for all of the above, we would like to see how we can help.
