Janet Nelson @ UNICEF

Vision as of August 10th 1997

I see:

The IPC 2000 Project in Greenwich, England taking place within the frame of the IAEWP 10th World Peace Congress. Celebrating the raising of $100 Billion dollars for the children of the world.

I have been to meet with my counterpart Mr. Rajant Sidhu in the UK and his team. They were in the process of hosting a Multicultural event. I also met with Bob Harris the Deputy Leader of the Greenwich Council and was made aware of the politics of the events and the Millennium Experience. I had a very short meeting with Andrew Parry the Communications officer of the Millennium Experience.

I have also attended the Executive Board meeting of UNICEF and informed the Executive Director Carole Bellamy by way of informal note, that I was embarrassed to be discussing a mere $1 Billion Dollar budget for all the children of the world. On the fourth day of the meeting at an "informal" gathering I objected to the process of UN Reform by formal presentation suggesting that the UN Reform should take place through such process that we should teach this process in our schools and that this process should be holistic in nature.

The thousand days preceding this is the work involved in the process, teaching about the importance of world citizenship and the values inherent in being a world citizen.

Our Education program and materials for teaching about world citizenship, and the values necessary for achieving the objectives of global citizenship: a peaceful world. This includes a number of programs already included in schools in many countries.

I have met with the leaders of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts who have entered into a program of teaching world citizenship. I have seen their program, and their program could be enhanced by our program, but they are afraid of losing their own budgeted fundraising activities. I think they will support this initiative in the future when they ask themselves the question. " Who are we really? and what is our message?

I see:

Corporations and individuals are going to be challenged to tithe 1% of their gross income to the Children of the World.

Food For Thought.

Companies are addressing the possibilities of tithing their income. They require confirmation that UNICEF is in this program. Club-web and others have already made the commitment..

I see:

The launch of this program taking place in Cyberspace and at the UN. The launch at the UN is a 3 day event beginning Sept 15th:

Sunday : the publicity event / Cyberspace, or Town Hall New York

We have opened discussions with Much Music in Toronto to host the event in Cyberspace.

Monday: the luncheon with the Ambassadors from around the world

Peace Bell Society Annual event.

The event is booked and onstream. We have been offered co-sponsorship of event but will have to come up with US$10 to $20K for this privilege.

Tuesday: the ringing of the Peace Bell at the UN

This is a regular UN event and we have put in a request that Kofi Annan mention our initiative at the ringing of the Bells. The World Peace Prayer Society is hosting an event with about 150 children participating. P.S. 173 in New York has agreed to have us address the whole school ( 1500 students) on the Monday or Tuesday./

I see:

The three day event produced as a television show promoting the 1000 day plan. The program will be shown on WETV as a first run, and our associates will be targeting the major US Broadcasters. (Our lead player is the Secretary General of North American National Broadcasters Association, <NANBA>)

WETV has expressed interest in this type of program material. National broadcasters will depend on the name talent we attract to the Sunday event.

I see:

Cities will Challenge cities to both register peace votes and raise money for UNICEF - the beginning Challenge will be from the Homeless of Amsterdam (Peter Beeks Projektleider Rafelrandwandelingen) Peter is in the progress of organizing a challenge to Toronto, a city twinned with Amsterdam. I see other Cities taking up this challenge.

I have been to Amsterdam and met with Peter Beeks and he is making great progress. He is arranging for Jerry Springer to fly over to Amsterdam and do a talk show on the Homeless raising money for the children. United Airlines and a Five Star Hotel have supplied their services. The "mother Teresa " of Holland is endorsing this program

.

I see:

In each country, the local UNICEF organization will receive funds in a special Account, the Food for Thought Program. This program will be jointly administered by UNICEF and the IAEWP. We will jointly determine how the money gets spent, using a needs based demand model supported by requests from educators and health program officers worldwide.

Discussions are taking place between myself and Janet Nelson of UNICEF. I have met with Sadhir Rasheed the program director of UNICEF, and Marjorie Williams, albeit short meetings introducing the IPC2000 program to UNICEF.

I see:

These funds will be outside of the regular UNICEF Funds, but in each country, some provision will be made to look after any deficiencies in the existing local fundraising program.

I see:

The Internet will be a driving force for this program as it will enable us to deliver educational materials to the local level at a minimal cost. We also will be working with the existing Peace Universities in the world, and will be expanding their educational outreach. Our site will "get the conversation going" on why we need to have $100 Billion dollars for the children of the World.

I have made an Alliance with Club-Web who has agreed to work with us and produce a state of the art website. The Canadian Government provided funds for four staff positions for a period of 40 weeks total to do this. Great progress is being made and major leveraging of associations is in place. I have appointed Marie Josee Swift as Vice President-Corporate Affairs and International Communications and Norman Evans as Ambassador of Technology and Vice-President of Technology for the IAEWP.

I see:

The 1000 day plan includes numerous celebratory events which will take place in Cyberspace acknowledging specific UN Days.

Eight specific days have been selected, well spread during the year

I see:

The establishing of links with organizations that monitor conditions in the world, and our funding base will be in a position to react quickly when given needs arise.

There are a number of databases that we are in discussion with, but we will be posting the UNICEF State of the World's Children 1997 Booklet as soon as it is made available in digital form.

Our vision is based upon John Lennons' song Imagine and also the preamble to the United Nations declaration: "We the peoples of the earth".

Janet:

I have fifteen people working with me on how we develop this program and model. We are developing a "Chat " room on street level in Toronto opposite the world famous Eaton Center. An international Music venture (retail ) is going to share our building, and the Chat room will be allied with a major television company.

We are creating a virtual world in Cyberspace, and my team has the expertise to make this happen, having been involved with Microsoft for many of their project launches and in their strategic planning sessions since 1989.

I need a letter from you and probably more specifically Carole Bellamy instructing the UNICEF Canada (Mr. Harry Black or Mr. Wah Wong ) and UNICEF Nederland (Wim Slootweg) to open a bank account to receive funds on our behalf. Let us agree in advance that for the first go there is no administration charge to be applied.

This first step is important and we can then move forward within the timelines of my vision. Certainly this is what was intended by the Board of Directors when they suggested that UNICEF work closer with the NGO's. Certainly this is what the Board of Directors suggested that Corporations get involved. And certainly our strategy disarms the naysayers who imply that we will have to compromise our values with the corporate world. We do not have to compromise the children.

We require $3 million dollars to create our website in an appropriate configuration, and while we know that Carole has discretionary funds for this type of an investment, the timelines necessary to tap her resources will not work for us. I should have the money in the next week. Your letter will help me get the money.

I hope this is enough of a vision. Let's do it!.

In peace,

Mitch Gold
