The 1% Solution

Raising $100 Billion dollars for the good of the children of the world.

"We the people of earth, of one mind and heart

Joining together, open ourselves to the power of love and truth"

Austin Repath : The Last One

This global initiative is being spearheaded by the Canadian arm of The International Association of Educators for World Peace through its International Peace City 2000 program; a world citizenship challenge, to be executed in the spirit of UNESCO’s Culture of Peace for the millennium.

The intent is that, beginning in 1999, through a corporate campaign several major corporations will be the first to adopt a "global" tithing process. "The 1% Solution" whereby businesses of all sizes give 1% of their gross sales over a ten day period. These monies to be used for the good of the children of the world, in community endeavors locally and in support of deserving projects around the globe. This 1% tithing will also be promoted through grass roots initiatives encouraging support with purchasing power.

The framework surrounding "The 1% Solution" will facilitate the educational modeling of the interdependence of world citizenship, time, money and sustainable human behavior. Commitment to "The 1% Solution" heralds the emergence of world citizenship with all the intensity of national patriotism.

The role of youth and retired persons will be key to the success of "The 1% Solution" everywhere.

This initiative has the blessing of many Native Elders, has the endorsement and support of Javier Perez de Cuellar, former Secretary General of The United Nations, Hanne Strong (United States), Rashmi Mayur (India), Troy Davis (France), Lama Gangchen (Italy), Shaykh Hassan Cisse (Senegal), Dr. Stephen Aung (Canada), Grand Master Lu (China), Grand Master Lee (Korea) and many others too numerous to mention.

Need:

To describe the need is to ask you to read a headline in a newspaper, or an article on the editorial page of your local newspaper, or turn on the television news or even go to watch a sunset. What more do you need to be convinced? In the words of Dee Hock founder and CEO emeritus of VISA and founder of the Chaordic Alliance.

" One thing I do know: it is far too late , and things are far too bad for pessimism"

Background: .................................................

.....In 1987, the International Year of Peace, Javier Perez de Cuellar Secretary General of The United Nations began appointing Peace Messengers of The United Nations. Since that time 365 organizations and 63 cities worldwide have taken the designation of Peace Messenger.

The Canadian arm of the IAEWP, itself a formally appointed Peace Messenger, is currently calling all Peace Messengers around the world to form the infrastructure to facilitate "The 1% Solution" under the umbrella organization, Association of Peace Messengers of the United Nations.

Execution...................................................................

......During 1999, in addition to the Association and the many existing infrastructures which will form part of this ambitious undertaking, a working body of thirteen individuals of vision, integrity and compassion will be chosen, from around the world, to form the governing board.

Celebration.................................................................

.....In addition to ongoing celebrations (It’s About Time events) on specific United Nations Days the main celebration honoring "The 1% Solution" is scheduled for July 3rd - 7th in the year 2000 in Greenwich, England in close proximity to England’s Millennium Experience. There are also discussions underway to recognize Canada’s leadership role at a millennium function in Toronto, the ‘Meeting Place’ which as a city was given Peace Messenger status in 1987.
